Weaving to preserve an ancient craft, create beautiful art, and enhance young lives

Empowerment through allowing individual creativity and decision making on all levels of production

Fair trade through fair wages and working conditions and direct links with a foreign market

Tradition by using Lao weaving techniques as a base for artistic creativity

Eastern Weft is a weaving cooperative based in Vientiane, Laos, established by Samorn Sanixay and Kaisy Sophabmixay.

Our work is distinguished by our fusion of traditional Lao techniques with contemporary design. We create beautiful hand woven textiles and provide opportunities for skilled but disadvantaged young weavers to gain sustainable livelihoods through traditional Lao weaving.
Our textiles are created entirely by hand. The yarn is hand-spun, hand-dyed using locally sourced materials such as indigo, ebony and marigolds, and finally, hand-woven on traditional floor looms. Our products have a low impact on the environment with no chemicals used in any stage of the production.
